A Land Cruiser made for the safari

A safari-adapted Toyota Land Cruiser combines four-wheel drive with a raised viewing position and a roof or side opening suited to wildlife watching. Pop-up-roof and open-sided configurations differ. Your allocation should match the booked drive, party size, luggage and any transfer requirements.

The professional driver-guide is central to the experience: interpreting wildlife behaviour, choosing suitable tracks, positioning the vehicle considerately and explaining the landscape. Tell us if you need a particular guiding language, photographic setup, child restraint or assistance getting into a high vehicle. These requirements affect the vehicle match and must be agreed before confirmation.

Seat layout, viewing roof and equipment are matched to your party and drive programme. Include any child-seat, photography or boarding requirements in your enquiry.

Land Cruiser hire suits travellers who have already chosen their accommodation and want a dedicated vehicle for wildlife viewing. You can request a full-day private game drive, a morning or afternoon outing, or a vehicle and professional guide for several days. The schedule starts with where you are staying and the area you want to explore.

A private arrangement gives your party a shared pace. Spend longer watching animal behaviour, make room for photography, or plan a shorter outing around children’s needs. Your guide manages the route and viewing positions within the rules of the area. Wildlife sightings and river crossings remain unpredictable; a vehicle booking cannot guarantee a particular animal or event.

Morning or afternoon drive

Quoted for the requested session; a shorter drive is not automatically half the daily rate.

Several days with a private guide

A consistent vehicle and guiding arrangement throughout your stay.

Quoted for the complete programme, including any positioning and overnight driver requirements.

Airstrip or road transfer with game drives

Guests who need transport as well as wildlife viewing.

What the hire price covers

The USD 300 daily rate covers the private Land Cruiser, professional driver-guide, fuel, guide allowances, and driver and vehicle park entry charges for the agreed game-drive programme. Positioning and additional transfers depend on the requested route and are quoted separately rather than assumed to be part of a local game drive.

Guest park entry is not included. It depends on the viewing area, visitor category and applicable ticket conditions. Accommodation, guest meals, drinks, optional activities and gratuities are outside the daily hire rate. Picnic lunch, drinking water and additional transfers must be included explicitly if required.

If purchasing your own Reserve tickets, use the KAPS ticket portal after the drive area and dates are agreed. Avoid paying separately for tickets already included in a confirmed quote.

YOUR DAY IN THE MARA

Plan the route from your pickup point

Your camp’s location influences the practical start, return and viewing area. Share the actual property name rather than only “Maasai Mara”. A collection near Talek or Sekenani, a pickup in the Mara Triangle and a conservancy stay can require different positioning and access arrangements.

A full-day outing can include a packed lunch at a permitted picnic stop. A morning or afternoon outing returns around the agreed camp programme. The guide balances wildlife time with weather, tracks, gate requirements and the journey back. Long transfers should be planned separately so that travel time does not consume the drive you intended to book.

If you arrive by air, provide the airstrip and flight details once known. An airstrip transfer and a game drive are different services, even when combined in the same vehicle. Reserve and conservancy access are separate

A Land Cruiser booking does not grant permission to drive in every part of the Greater Mara. Private conservancy access follows the conservancy and camp’s arrangements. Night drives and off-road viewing are not general Reserve entitlements. Your booked area and its rules determine the permitted programme. Comfort, families and photography

Seat layout matters as much as the vehicle name. A photographer may prefer more space for equipment; a family may value shade, easier boarding and a shorter programme. Send the number of adults, the age of every child and any access needs so that the proposed vehicle and guide can be matched to your party.

Bring sun protection, a layer for cool starts, protection for camera equipment and any personal medication. Keep bags manageable, particularly when a drive follows an airstrip collection. Tell us about mobility requirements or a child seat before booking rather than relying on a general vehicle description.

During sightings, remain in the vehicle unless your guide authorises a permitted stop. Avoid disturbing wildlife, feeding animals or pressuring the guide to leave permitted routes.
