Rhino Ridge is a named wildlife-viewing landmark in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Ol Kiombo is a separate airstrip and safari-area reference. They are grouped here for orientation; they are not a single officially defined Reserve sector or a promise of rhino sightings.

Rhino Ridge and Ol Kiombo: location and identity
Camp reports identify Rhino Ridge as a real game-drive landmark. The Reserve management plan separately identifies Ol Kiombo airstrip. These references serve different purposes: a ridge guides wildlife-area descriptions, while an airstrip identifies an arrival and collection point.

Wildlife and habitat
The area’s grassland and surrounding cover form part of the Reserve wildlife landscape. Predator and grazing-animal observations occur in published reports, but named animals and their use of the area change. Rhino Ridge is a place name, not a reliable location service for black rhinos.
Arrival and game-drive access
For a flight-based stay, match Ol Kiombo airstrip to the booked camp and scheduled collection. For a road-based stay, choose the gate approach that serves the property. The airstrip name does not establish that every nearby track is open to every vehicle or that the camp is within walking distance.

Choose a practical safari base
This guide is useful when an itinerary or camp description refers to Rhino Ridge or the Ol Kiombo area. Compare the actual camp setting, included drives and arrival point, then read the wildlife guide for your main interest. A recognised landmark is useful orientation; the accommodation and programme determine the holiday.
Admission and visitor rules
| Detail | Visitor information |
|---|---|
| Admission | National Reserve entry applies to the visitor category and programme; use the maintained fee guide. |
| Vehicle access | Follow authorised routes and ranger instructions. A geographical label grants no additional access. |
| Activities | Standard Reserve viewing is by vehicle; do not transfer conservancy night-drive or walking permissions here. |
| Accommodation | Book the named property and its actual location; this viewing-area label is not a camp membership list. |

Seasonal planning
Resident wildlife gives the Reserve a purpose beyond the migration season. Migratory herds move with conditions, and rainfall affects tracks and visibility. Use the best-time guide for the travel month and the Great Migration guide for seasonal context. No month makes a named landmark a guaranteed sighting stop.
The entry-fees guide keeps admission information together. An inclusive safari quote identifies scheduled Reserve access and the complete transport programme; accommodation-only rates and conservancy stays have different inclusions.

Book the correct arrival service
For a flight-based stay, use the airline’s airstrip and baggage information for the booked service. The correct strip follows the named camp and collection arrangement.
