Karen Blixen Camp combines raised canvas tents and riverfront guest areas in Mara North Conservancy. Double and twin arrangements are available, while the family option uses two tents sharing a veranda. Full-board meals, selected house drinks, shared daytime drives, one conservancy night drive and designated airstrip transfers form the lodge basis. Conservancy charges, the tourism development levy and Reserve outings cost extra. The family arrangement uses two canvas tents with a shared veranda. Both tents form part of the camp’s existing inventory, rather than additional units beyond the published total. Sleeping arrangements depend on the party and allocated tents.

The camp has 22 canvas tents. Its family arrangement pairs two tents with a shared veranda, while children below 12 may have extra beds by advance arrangement. Timber platforms, cushioned daybeds and river-facing guest areas give the camp a traditional canvas safari character.
Beds and bedding, bathroom access, drinking water and housekeeping are available.

Location & arrival

The setting

On the Mara River in Mara North Conservancy, with views across the river towards the Oloololo Escarpment. The conservancy adjoins the Maasai Mara National Reserve but has separate access, fees and driving arrangements. Wildlife may be seen from guest areas, without a sighting guarantee.

Gate & airstrip access

Mara North Airstrip is the usual fly-in arrival point, with designated transfers included in the lodge basis. Flights cost extra. Road access runs through the Mara North area, where conditions vary with the season. Conservancy driving is limited to authorised vehicles. National Reserve outings have separate admission and vehicle arrangements, with the route determined by the planned safari sector.

Families are welcome. Ordinary accommodation terms distinguish children aged 2 to below 12 from infants below 2. Extra beds for children below 12 are available by advance arrangement, and the family option uses two tents with a shared veranda. Child-friendly meals and family activities complement the stay; they do not constitute childcare. A private vehicle offers the flexible timing recommended by the operator for young children. Walks depend on suitability and guide decisions, while pool, river and wildlife areas require parental supervision. Special family promotions have separate age and vehicle terms.

Accessibility

The operator describes accessible features and support for travellers with disabilities. Access varies with the allocated tent, outside shower, veranda, communal routes and safari-vehicle boarding arrangement.

Rates & booking

Ordinary lodge stays include shared drives; exclusive vehicle use has a separate charge and offers a more flexible schedule for young families. Free-night and family promotions have separate seasonal terms. These promotions are separate from the ordinary starting basis. Complete private safaris are arranged through our authorised tour operator partners, with dedicated guiding and authorised transport. You pay the tour operator, which plans and fulfils the safari. Private safari totals include the scheduled compulsory conservancy, Reserve and selected-property charges for the booked itinerary.
